Our MABR modules help you treat more process load at an existing treatment plant. A flexible solution from OxyMem enables you to grow your plant as the process demand grows, year on year.
Seasonal changes like peak holiday season can effect both the amount and concentration of wastewater that needs to be treated. We understand that the capacity of a plant can increase substantially at certain times of the year, making it difficult for traditional plants to adapt and meet discharge standards. Our team have solved this problem, offering municipalities the opportunity to expand process capacity as population or local industry loads increase.
Our 'drop-in' modules drastically improve the quality of wastewater discharged back into the environment. Within the same tank footprint we breakdown more wastewater pollutants. Nitrogen concentrations of less than 5 mg per litre are often possible with a single pass system; without a re-circulation pump and without a post denitrification reactor.
Across the globe, consistency and better practice in the operation and management of wastewater assets are needed to optimise performance and drive improvements in effluent quality. MABR can help ease this burden.
Conventional wastewater systems often require additional tanks or substantial civil modifications in order to treat more biological load.
Our solution does not require additional civil infrastructure to be added. We can improve process efficiency and performance without acquiring additional land or making modifications to existing tanks. This not only saves both time and money, but also frees up the unused land for possible commercial and public service use, which may be essential in fast growing urban areas.
MABR is one of the many steps needed to help us meet local and international environmental goals. Nitrous Oxide, a gas often produced when treating wastewater, is 100 times more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide. As wastewater is a necessary evil in our daily lives, it is essential that the world looks to treatment methods that minimise harmful gas emissions. OxyMem's superior denitrification process is a benefit to our environment.
Water has become a valuable commodity and is becoming more limited due to climate effects, industrial expansion and population growth. Initiatives have been taken internationally to prevent conflicts that may occur including the UN International Hydrological Program which aims to help improve understanding of water resources and foster effective water management. Our increase in water quality means that it would be safe for reuse in industrial processes alleviating some of the pressure on limited drinking water.
One of the biggest risks when adopting a new technology for municipal wastewater treatment is stopping the process. This can cause a build up of waste and can cause unforeseen problems. A plant failure during a scheduled upgrade could perhaps even cause more damage to the environment than the benefits the new technology can provide. OxyMem's 'drop-in' modules mean you can get the benefits and the results without the risk of disrupting your existing process.
The installation of our modules takes only a matter of days.
Minimal on-site supervision is required over a period of weeks, while the biofilm becomes established and while performance is optimised for the plant. We do not require highly skilled staff to operate our systems and OxyMem offer remote support should an online/ dial-in function be installed.
Our modules are designed for ease of installation and commissioning, and can be easily transported across the world; having been designed to neatly fit within sea freight containers.
Our modules deliver a 75% reduction in the power required for added biological capacity through exceptional oxygen transfer efficiency, optimised pollutant-biofilm contact and controlled scouring, resulting in less energy required for better results.
Less sludge to transfer and dispose of helps protect our environment and reduces operational costs, and staff time. The logistics of finding approved land banks and treatment facilities can be eased with a low-sludge producing design such as MABR.
More process load is broken down by the attached biofilm due to the biological nature of the process and a resulting long sludge age.
The MABR habitat creates an ideal environment to support a very resilient biofilm. The arrangement is better suited to withstand process upsets such as increased hydraulic flows during storms or changes in wastewater characteristics.
Our patented airlift technology enhances biofilm-pollutant contact to improve performance without the issues found with mechanical mixers. Wastewater is effectively dispersed throughout each module to achieve optimum treatment.
The nature of MABR biofilm technology enables simultaneous nitrification and denitrification to occur on the permeable media, within the same tank. The OxyMem system is easily optimised to improve denitrification on a plant.
Our optimised drop-in modules have been designed with the concerns of engineers and owners in mind. Enhancing treatment no longer means changing your process stream.
Units that are dropped into tanks without affecting existing processes in any way can be easily removed at will, simply reverting you back to your previous plant performance.
In addition to lowest energy consumption, our modules require no scheduled maintenance, require no additional skilled labour and may reduce the volume of waste sludge on your site. With discharge legislation tightening annually and energy costs constantly on the rise, it is beneficial to know a lowest TOTEX solution exists through the use of MABR.
Our modules are made from high quality, long lasting materials and are designed for installation in the most demanding wastewaters. The life expectancy of our membranes in domestic wastewater is 20 years and extended product warranties of up to 10 years can be offered.

As a leading Water Utility serving 8.5 million customers in the UK, we are constantly on the look-out for game-changing innovative technologies and approaches that will bolster our position as effective leaders in wastewater treatment. We’ve been working closely with OxyMem for a number of years, facilitating the development of their MABR technology by providing testing facilities at our Minworth WWTP. The exciting potential of the MABR technology and the strength of the OxyMem team were immediately apparent to us, and we continue to work together to assess the best opportunities for MABR technology to upgrade our treatment plants to meet the twin challenges of tightening effluent standards and to cater for population growth.

We were amazed by OxyMem MABR’s innovative design and energy saving characteristic when we first got to know it. Based on our test of MABR unit in the past few months, we believe that MABR has the huge potential to help industrial wastewater treatment all across China. Although national effluent standards of industrial wastewater are becoming more and more stringent these days, effluent quality could be improved to meet current environmental targets, using this smart, innovative and energy efficient water treatment solution.

Compared to traditional wastewater treatment, MABR is a smarter way to provide aeration and a smarter way to do BNR. As a young water professional, I’m aware of the challenges my generation is going to face and I believe MABR can play a key role in helping us transition towards the more sustainable resource recovery facilities of the future.
