OxyMem was named Bank of Ireland Innovative Startup of the Year at the annual awards ceremony at the Royal Hibernian Academy last night.
OxyMem has been named the 2014 Innovative Startup category winner at the Bank of Ireland Startup awards for the development of its breakthrough technology for wastewater aeration. Companies were recognised for their achievements across a diverse group of categories and honored for their contribution to Ireland’s continued economic development. Now in its third year, the Bank of Ireland Startup Awards aim to identify, promote and support start-up companies for the contribution and employment they bring to the economy.
OxyMem was chosen as one of six of the most successful Irish startup companies for its ground-breaking product and its exciting new approach to improve and disrupt the traditional wastewater market. The startup was chosen by a distinguished panel of judges including Entrepreneur and RTE Dragon, Gavin Duffy and Head of Enterprise Development at Bank of Ireland, Gerry Prizeman. Judges decided based on the startup companies displaying a clear vision for the business along with proven results and a passion and enthusiasm for the concept.
OxyMem is a breakthrough technology for the wastewater aeration market tackling the industry’s biggest challenge – energy costs. For more than 100 years wastewater treatment has relied upon energy intensive processes which compress large volumes of air to provide oxygen to the bacteria breaking down the pollutants. The OxyMem solution does not rely on these highly inefficient methods. Instead it uses gas permeable membranes capable of providing Oxygen directly to bacteria for aerobic biological processes, resulting in up to a fourfold energy saving with more compact, and lower cost infrastructure.
On receiving the award, Managing Director of OxyMem, Wayne Byrne said “We are delighted to have won the Innovative Startup of the Year award amongst very deserving entries. To be acknowledged as being among the most pioneering of Ireland’s startups is a real honour for OxyMem.” Mr Byrne added “This is a great boost also for our staff, whose hard work and dedication has played an integral part in our success.”
